To identify and develop best practice after death care in paediatric hospice.

I went to my first Fellowship information session in 2020 when I was working as a Holistic Funeral Director. I knew then that there was a gap of knowledge in after death care (from the time of death to the funeral) in community and healthcare. I wasn’t ready then because I couldn’t see my project clearly.

Fast forward to 2026 and I am now working at Very Special Kids (paediatric palliative care hospice) as a Family Support Practitioner and it was clear.

Paediatric Hospices provide after death care for children in Australia. The gift of time for families to spend with their child until they can take their next steps.

My passion in working in these spaces over the last decade has always centered around access to independent information, the power of time and therapeutic supports after death.

I’m proud to be one of 75 Australians who will travel overseas to learn from colleagues in paediatric hospices to bring new ideas, knowledge and connections home to Australia.

At the heart of this project is the child, their siblings, parents and community. After death care is an essential part of bereavement care. 🧡

I will be travelling in 2027 to the United Kingdom, Netherlands, USA and Canada.
